During the 1990s both Honda and Toyota launched minivans that were designed to cater to the North American market.

This model that Toyota launched was the Sienna, entering production in 1997 they created the model using the Camry chassis.

They had already had a few years to check out the Odyssey in person (Honda’s offering) and managed to make several improvements over it at launch.

This took the wind out of the Odyssey’s sales in the USA where it was making big impressions over the locally created models such as the Chrysler Town & Country.

Fitting sliding doors to the initial Sienna model meant Honda had one over the Toyota model and a mid-cycle facelift in the year 2000 helped cement that position further.

Over the decades since the two models have continued to battle it out in the minivan segment as it shrinks in size.

Crossover SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4 are stealing away sales as they offer a much better all-around package – although there is still space on the market for these minivans.

Modern examples of the Sienna use a CVT connected to a hybrid 2.5-liter gasoline engine capable of capturing and recycling wasted power from braking.

Inside of the car is an abundance of features including power outlets and a built-in vacuum cleaner as well as a wifi hotspot.
