The Avalon first joined the Toyota family when it was released in 1994. It has then remained on a number of markets since, except for the United States where it was discontinued in 2022.

Other markets include Canada, China, South Korea, and the Middle East.

Since its initial release, there have been a total of five generations to be unveiled. The latest of these hit the markets in 2018.

It then received various updates since this point, with the most notable being a facelift that was unveiled in 2022 specifically for the Chinese market.

Toyota has offered just three trims for the latest version of the model. These include the XLE, followed by the Touring, and the top-tier Limited. There have also been other special editions like the Nightshade.

Within the Japanese carmaker family, the Avalon has typically gone up against its smaller sibling, the Toyota Camry.

Other rivals have usually included models like the Chrysler 300, Nissan Maxima, and Volkswagen Arteon.

Of course, over the near two decades that the model has been available, there have been a variety of engines offered. For the latest version, these have consisted of both conventional petrol and petrol hybrid powertrains.

These have typically ranged from a 2.0 L inline-4 through to a 3.5 L V6 for the petrol variants. Hybrids are powered exclusively by a 2.5 L inline-4. The older-gen models also featured similar-sized engines as these.

These have been mated with either a CVT or an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is also an eCVT version fitted to the latest hybrid powertrains.
