The Armada first entered Nissan’s full-size SUV segment back in 2003 and it has been manufactured by the Japanese carmaker ever since. During this time, only two generations have been released, with the newer version making its debut in 2017.

Depending on the region it is being sold, it has also been sold as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada. However, this only started in 2004.

Because the model has only seen two new generations in over two decades, its two mid-cycle facelifts have been very significant. These came in 2008 and then 2021.

In terms of the Nissan SUV family, the Armada sits at the top in terms of sizing. This puts it ahead of models like the Nissan Patrol. It also sits alongside its luxury counterpart, the Infiniti QX80.

Nissan has usually offered four trim levels for the model. These are the base S, followed by the SV, SL, and Platinum.

Nissan also released a special edition called the Mountain Patrol edition in 2022. This package included a number of performance upgrades designed to increase off-road capabilities. It goes up against the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser.

Competition from other models have typically come from models like Chevrolet Tahoe, Jeep Wagoneer, GMC Yukon, and Ford Expedition.

Nissan has kept the powertrain options for the Armada very limited. To this date, only a 5.6 L V8 has been offered.

These have been fitted exclusively with automatic transmissions. This was a 5-speed for the first-gen model and a 7-speed for the latest version.
