The Sorento first made its debut in 2002 and has remained on the market ever since, making it one of the oldest models in Kia’s SUV lineup.

Each generation also received a mid-cycle facelift. The last of these was the third-gen facelift, which was unveiled in 2018.

Competition for the Sorento has typically come from the Kia Telluride, Ford Bronco, Hyundai Palisade, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Kia has typically offered the Sorento in a number of different trims. For the latest generation, these consist of six options, the LX, S, EX, SX Prestige, and SX Prestige X-Line.

A plug-in hybrid powertrain was first introduced with the release of the fourth generation in 2020. This uses a 1.6 L inline-4 coupled with an electric motor.

These various engines have been mated with a 6-speed automatic, an 8-speed automatic, and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
