The Arteon first hit the markets in 2017. It entered the VW family as the successor to the VW Comfort Coupe, more commonly known as the CC.
The model was initially released as a liftback sedan, but it took only a few years for another body style to join the ranks. The station wagon version, called the Arteon Shooting Brake, was first unveiled in 2020.
VW also released the high-performance R trim package (much like the Golf R) for the Arteon at this time. This model was given a turbocharged 2.0 L petrol engine that produces up to 316 hp.
Interestingly, both the sedan and Shooting Brake variants are offered in the R package.
Other trim levels include the base SE, SEL, and SEL R-Line. Of course, there is also the R version which sits atop the trim options.
Engine options have ranged from a 1.5 L inline-4 through to the larger engine found in R models. Diesel options are to 2.0 L inline-4 engines. Notable variations include a higher power version and a twin-turbocharged BiTDI SCR 4motion.
VW also released a hybrid version of the Arteon, powered by their e-Hybrid technology, in 2020.
Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 7-speed Direct-Shift gearbox (DSG). From 2019, models configured with a 2.0 L were outfitted with an 8-speed automatic.
The Arteon managed to receive fairly high praise upon its release. It managed to win the 2017 Golden Steering Wheel Award and was even awarded the 2019 Overall Winner of the Tow Car Awards, which is a fairly strange award for the German sedan.
