One of the most iconic models to ever come out of the Asian car industry, the Corolla was first released in 1966. Soon after, it quickly became not only a staple of Toyota’s lineup, but one of the best-selling cars ever.
In fact, it won the title of the best-selling car in the world by 1974. This trend did not stop as the model reached a record 50 million units sold in 2021.
Since its release, a total of 12 generations have been released. The latest of these was unveiled in 2018.
Under the Corolla nameplate, there are a number of body styles. The most notable of these are the classic 4-door sedan. 5-door estate, and 5-door hatchback.
These various body styles have allowed the Toyota car to face a number of rivals in different segments. This means that the Kia Forte, Mazda 3, and Nissan Sentra are some of its top rivals. However, the Honda Civic is, of course, its main competitor.
Along with the various body styles, Toyota has offered eight different trim packages for the latest generation alone. These are the L, LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, SE Apex Edition, XLE, XSE, and XSE Apex Edition
There have also been other variants inspired by the model. The most notable of these is the Toyota Corolla Cross, which was released in 2022.
Of course, there have been a wide array of engines over the years. For the latest version, these powertrains have ranged from a 1.2 L inline-4 to a 2.0 L inline-4. There have also been similarly sized petrol hybrid and flex-fuel variants.
The Corolla also featured a number of diesel engines for a while, but these were retired with the release of the 11th generation model.
