The Titan first made its debut in 2003 and has remained a staple of the Japanese carmaker’s North American lineup ever since.
In this time, there have only been two generations to hit the markets. The latest version was released in 2016. It then received a facelift and mid-cycle refresh in 2020.
Because the Titan is a full-size pickup, it is mainly sold in the North American market. This has meant that its competition typically comes from other popular American pickups like the RAM 1500, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and Ford F-150.
It has been offered with a 2-door single cab, a 4-door King Cab (extended), and a 4-door crew cab.
Of course, there are also trim packages for further customization. These have consisted of the base S, SV, Pro-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve.
Another notable version is the Titan XD, which is a diesel variant that is fitted with a number of additional heavy-duty upgrades. This was released with the unveiling of the second-gen model.
However, it was discontinued in 2019. This was mainly the result of complaints surrounding the choice of Cummings engine.
Only two engines have been offered for the new generation. These consist of either a petrol 5.6 L V8 or a turbocharged diesel 5.0 L:Cummins V8 for the XD model. Of course, only the petrol option is available now.
Transmission options have included a 6-speed automatic, a 7-speed automatic that was used between 2015 and 2019, and a 9-speed automatic.
The only engine option was a 5.6 L V8 until the retirement of the first-gen Titan in 2015.
