The Murano first made its debut back in 2002 and has remained a staple of the Japanese carmaker’s SUV family since then. It has then seen a total of three generations to be released. The latest of these was unveiled in 2014.

In terms of the Nissan family, it sits between the larger Pathfinder and the smaller Rogue.

Because it was released so long ago, it represents one of the oldest crossover models on the market. It is actually the first crossover SUV released by Nissan in the North American market.

This has meant it has faced competition for a number of models. The most notable of these are the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

Nissan has released a number of different trim levels for the Murano over the years. These consist of five standard options. These are the base S, followed by the SL, SV, Platinum and finally the Midnight Edition.

There have been a number of petrol and diesel powertrains released over the years. The latest generation features only a single option for either fuel type. These are a 3.5 L V6 petrol and a 2.5 L inline-4 diesel. There is also a 2.5 L inline-4 offered for the Chinese version of the model.

Transmission options for this new version have included either a CVT or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Murano also received a number of updates over the years. The third-gen model received consecutive facelifts in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

It won a number of awards over the years. The most notable of these was the 2003 North American Truck of the Year.
