The legendary Ranger first made its debut back in 1983. Interestingly, there has actually been two vastly different variations over the years, one for the North American market and one for the rest of the world.

Since 1998, the international version was essentially an outsourced Mazda pickup truck that was then marketed as the Ford Courier, despite being the same as the models sold in America.

However, everything changed when it was moved to the T6 platform in 2011.

The North American version of the Ford Ranger was sold between 1983 and 2012 when it was briefly discontinued.

It was only in 2019 that it was reintroduced to the American market as a mid-size pickup truck. Since that point, the American version of the Ranger has seen only two generations.

This made this the smaller sibling to the larger pickups in the Ford F-Series like the F-150 and F-250.

The new T6 models have been released with the typical body styles, consisting of a 2-door single cab, 2+2 door SuperCab, and 4-door double cab option.

Ford has typically outfitted the Ranger with smaller engines than its larger pickup siblings. These petrol and diesel engines have ranged from a 2.0 L to a 3.2 L option. All of these engines have been turbocharged in recent years.

Ford has released four standard trim packages for the Ranger. These consist of the base XL, followed by the XLT, Lariat, and finally the Wildtrak.

There is also the high-performance variant, which is called the Ford Raptor. This version first made its debut back in 2018.
