The Tundra first joined the North American pickup truck segment upon its release in 1999 and it has remained a staple of the class ever since.

There has only been a total of three generations to hit the markets since its release. The latest of these was unveiled in 2021.

The pickup has had a checkered history when it comes to reviews. It managed to win a number of smaller awards over the first few years of its life, like the Motor Trend 2008 Truck of the Year.

However, despite sharing the same DNA as its older but smaller sibling, the legendary Hilux, the Tundra has been criticized for having fairly poor reliability. Toyota has even recalled the model a number of times, with the first of these coming in 2009 for models released between 2000 and 2003.

Of course, this has put the model behind in competition, often sitting below more popular offerings like the RAM 1500, Ford F-150, and GMC Sierra 1500.

For the latest version of the Tundra, Toyota has offered seven trim levels. These have included the base SR, followed by the SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and finally the Capstone.

All of these have been offered in the various cabin options like the base single cab. However, the regular cab was eventually discontinued in 2018.

Toyota has offered a wide array of engines for the model over the years. For the latest generation, these have been either a conventional or a hybrid twin-turbocharged 3.4 L V6. Both of these are mated with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
