The GLC first made its debut in 2015. As its name indicates it is the SUV equivalent to the C-Class.

Since its release, there have been two generations to hit the markets. The latest of these was unveiled in 2022. The first-gen version also received a mid-cycle facelift in 2015.

As the ā€˜Cā€™ hints at, it sits near the middle of the Mercedes-Benz SUV family, above other models like the GLA, but below the GLE. There has also been the GLC Coupe available since the first generation.

The GLC has typically faced competition from other executive SUVs, including BMW and Audi. However, its most notable rivals include the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Porsche Macan, and Volvo XC60.

In typical Mercedes fashion, trim levels are based on the engine selection. These range from the GLA 200 4MATIC and GLA 300 to the AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ for the petrol models. Diesel versions range from the GLC 200d to the 300de.

As these names represent, petrol options have ranged between a 2.0 L inline-4 and a bi-turbocharged 4.0 L V8, which is found with the AMG models. Diesel variants have ranged from a 2.0 L inline-4 to a 3.0 L V6.

All engines were streamlined to only a single 2.0 L inline-4 option for petrol, hybrid, and diesel in the second generation.

Hybrid variants have been fitted with both MHEV and PHEV powertrains. The mild versions are typically called the EQ Boost.

These have been fitted exclusively with automatic transmission, which has always been a 9-speed automatic.

Mercedes released a fully-electric model called the EQC in 2019. This is based heavily on the GLC.
