The Seltos first made its debut in the Kia lineup in 2019. Of course, only a single generation has been offered since then, but it did receive a facelift in 2023.
Despite having only a single generation, there is another model under the same name. The SP2i designation was given to any of these models that were manufactured in India. The SP2 codename was given to all other models manufactured in South Korea.
As a subcompact crossover, it sits in the middle of Kia’s current SUV family. This puts it between the smaller Kia Soul and the larger Sportage.
Because the Seltos is a crossover model, it shares the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform with its corporate cousins, the Hyundai i30 and Accent.
Competition from outside of the Korean group has typically come from the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, and Subaru Crosstrek. Due to the huge popularity of the crossover class, its list of rivals are extensive.
Kia has offered the model in six trim levels, being the LX, S, S Turbo, Ex, and SX Turbo. All of these trim levels are fitted with AWD, with the exception of the S model. However, this package does come with AWD as an optional extra.
Powertrains range from a 1.4 L inline-4 to the 2.0 L inline-4. There is also a 1.6 L offered in two different tunings. Diesel options are limited to the 1.5 L inline-4 and a 1.6 inline-4.
Transmissions for the Seltos include a 6-speed gearbox in both manual and automatic. A dual-clutch 7-speed is also available, as well as the Intelligent Variable Transmission, which is a continuously variable transmission
