The Wagoneer was originally released back in 1963. It remained available in this first form until its retirement in 1993.
Unlike some models that take only a few years to be reintroduced, it took almost 30 years for this model to be brought back. The modern and latest version of the Wagoneer came to the markets in 2021.
There were rumors about the model making its release earlier, but this obviously was not the case. Chrysler stated that the model’s arrival would be delayed to give the Dodge Durango time to gain a following.
Another model that has strong ties to this one is the Grand Wagoneer, which is essentially a high-end variant. This version made its debut in 2022. Finally, there is also the Wagoneer L, which arrived in 2023.
Competition from outside of Jeep has typically come from the likes of the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Jeep offers three standard trim packages for the Wagoneer. These are the base Series I, followed by the Series II, and Series III. There is also the Obsidian package for the Grand Wagoneer, as well as the Off-Road package.
There are just three powertrain options offered by Jeep, all of which are petrol. The smallest of the bunch is a twin-turbocharged 3.0 L inline-6. Then there is the largest option for the base Wagoneer, a 5.7 L V8 with mild hybrid capabilities. The Grand Wagoneer is powered by a 6.4 L V8.
All of these come with an 8-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission as standard.
Drivetrains for the full-size Wagoneer are either RWD or 4WD, while the Grand Wagoneer is exclusively 4WD.
