The Jeep Patriot first made its debut in the compact crossover SUV segment in 2006. It then remained on the market for a number of years, before it was discontinued in 2016.

There was only a single generation of the model before its retirement. However, it did receive a mid-cycle facelift in 2011.

As a compact crossover SUV, it regularly is compared to others in the same class. The most notable of these rivals include the Subaru Forester, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Ford Escape.

It also bore a huge number of similarities with its sibling, the Jeep Renegade, which was released in 2014.

Jeep offered three trim packages for the North American market. These consisted of the base Sport, Latitude, and Limited. These were different to the trim levels sold in other regions like Europe. The most notable of these included the Sport, Sport Plus, Limited, and Overland.

Powertrain options included two diesel and two petrol engines. The turbocharged diesel engines were either a 2.0 L inline-4 or a 2.4 L inline-4. Petrol options consisted of either a 2.0 L inline-4 or a 2.2 L inline-4.

These were coupled with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. A 6-speed manual transmission was offered for the diesel engines. The Freedom Drive models also had a continuously variable transmission.

There were also different 4WD systems offered over the years. These were the Freedom Drive I and Freedom Drive II.

Jeep decided to discontinue the model and replace it with the second generation of the Jeep Compass. This meant that the Patriot was taken off the market just before 2017.
