The i20 first made its debut in 2008 and has remained a staple of the Korean car maker’s lineup ever since. Since its release, there have been a total of three generations. The latest of these was unveiled in 2020.

Before this, the second-gen model, which was released in 2014, received a facelift in 2018.

The model is sold across the world, but its primary markets include Europe and India.

As its name indicates, it sits between the i10 and i30 in Hyundai’s lineup. One of the main differences between this and the larger model is that the i20 is offered only in a hatchback layout, including 3-door and 5-door variants.

Hyundai has offered various standard trim packages for the model. These consist of the base SE Connect, N Line, Premium, and Ultimate. Other notable trims, depending on the region, have included the Classic, Active, and Style.

There has also been a high-performance hot hatch variant called the i20 N. This was first unveiled at the end of 2020.

Competition for the i20 has typically come from other popular hatchbacks in the supermini segment. The most notable of these are the Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta, and SEAT Ibiza.

Various engines have been offered over the years. Petrol options have typically ranged between a 1.0 L inline-3 through to a 1.6 L inline-4. Diesel options have been much more limited. The latest offering is a 1.5 L inline-4.

Hyundai also released a MHEV version for the third generation.

Transmission options have included both 5-speed and 6-speed manuals, as well as a 7-speed DCT and a CVT for the latest iteration.
