The Honda Odyssey is a small minivan created for the American market based on the Accord chassis.
It was put into production in the mid-1990s in assembly plants in Japan – during a time of economic difficulties which put increased stresses on designers to cut back on materials.
After the first generation, an assembly plant was opened in North America to build the cars locally.
Honda included smart space-saving features in the Odyssey and implemented sliding doors in the later versions to help it compete against locally produced models.
It faced fierce competition from the Chrysler Town & Country and even now you can find both of these lines still battling hard on the market.
Modern examples of the Odyssey are fitted with either 9 or 10-speed automatic transmissions and amazing driver-aids.
Honda’s range of autonomous safety features (which they branded as Honda Sensing) helps the driver avoid collisions or reduce the potential impact from them on the occupants.
Inside the recent Odyssey models, you will find Magic Slide folding seats and 4-way power-adjustable lumbar support for maximum comfort.
A facelift in 2021 saw the minivan range offer the Honda Sensing package that was optional in the past and become a standard feature going forward.
For monitoring young occupants in the rear the newer models also include the Honda CabinWatch system as standard too.
