Volvo entered the compact luxury crossover SUV market with the XC60 in 2008.
It quickly went on to become the best-selling car for the Swedish automaker in the following year and has remained in that position since.
To create the XC60 the company took the P3 platform that is also used in the V60 and the V70 as well as many other lines.
It also shares a lot of technology with the Land Rover Freelander as both Volvo and the British offroad 4X4 brand were owned by Ford at the time.
When it was created it was engineered to perform well offroad – with the move to the second generation in 2017 that direction was changed.
Instead, the new XC60 was designed to be lighter and was now being built on the SPA platform that you can find under the new breed of Volvo models.
Engine sizes were now revised downward to smaller displacement turbocharged units that provide better fuel economy.
Alongside this change was the addition of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that it shares with the XC40.
Inside the new Volvo XC60, you can find the company’s new Android-powered touchscreen infotainment system now holding much of the controls of the car within it.
