The legendary Impreza first made its debut back in 1992, taking over from the Legacy as the company’s flagship line. The model is now in its sixth generation as of 2022.

The model has seen a wide number of body styles over the years. These have consisted of a 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback, and a 5-door station wagon.

The Impreza has become an icon over the years, amassing a loyal following, particularly among rally fans. Sadly, these various models have been retired at various times.

The only body that remains available is the hatchback variant. The rest of these were retired in 2000, 2023, and 2008 respectively.

Despite these models being discontinued, they still live on in other models since the release of the Subaru WRX and Crosstrek, which were unveiled in 2014 and 2012 respectively.

The legendary Japanese car has faced competition from a number of noteworthy offerings. These include the Honda Civic, Mazda3, and Volkswagen Jetta.

Subaru has typically offered four trim levels. These consist of the base Impreza, followed by Premium, Sport, and Limited.

The Impreza has been offered with a number of spritely petrol offerings, as if in homage to its rally heritage. Of course, all of these have been Subaru’s signature boxer engines. These have varied widely, but ranged between a 1.5 L H-4 and a 2.5 L H-4.

There were also limited diesel options released. These were introduced with the third generation in 2007. However, these were discontinued with the release of the fifth-gen model in 2016. All of these engines were 2.0 L 4-cylinder boxers.

There has been an extensive list of transmissions. These typically included various automatics, as well as 5-speed and 6-speed manuals. However, only a CVT option has been offered since the release of the sixth-gen model.
