The Renault Trafic first hit the markets all the way back in 1980 and it has been in production ever since.

During this time, the French carmaker has offered a total of three generations. The latest of these hit the markets in 2014.

The second-generation models received two facelifts though, which came in 2006 and 2012.

The model has also been sold as the Fiat Talento, Mitsubishi Express, Opel Vivaro, and Nissan NV300.

Competition for the Trafic and these other models has typically come from the Mercedes-Benz Vito and Volkswagen Transporter.

Renault has sold the model with a number of options and configurations for customers. The most notable of these options include short and long wheelbases, along with low or high roof configurations. It has also been offered with RWD and 4WD in the past, although this was dropped to just FWD with the release of the second generation in 2001.

Trim levels for the latest generation, which hit the markets in 2022, consist of the base Business, followed by the Business+, Sport, and Sport+. The Sport+ trim option only became available with the update to the model in 2022.

Other notable versions are the X-Track, an offroad version, and the E-Tech, an all-electric variant. These made their debuts in 2016 and 2022 respectively.

Powertrains have been limited to only diesel engines since the latest generation. These have ranged between 1.5 L and 2.5 L inline-4s. Powertrains for the latest version come with three different power outputs for both of the same engine sizes.

Renault offered a 2.0 L inline-4 petrol engine, but this was discontinued with the retirement of the second-generation model.

These engines have been coupled with either a 6-speed manual, automatic, or dual-clutch automatic.
