The Stinger first made its debut only a few years ago in 2017. At this point, it became the only sports car offered by the South Korean automaker.
Of course, there has only been one generation released by Kia in such a short time. That being said, it did receive a facelift and update in 2020.
In terms of the Kia lineup, it sits above the Kia Cerato. Because it sits in the sports sedan segment, it faces some competition from other executive models like the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes C-Class.
The Stinger has been offered in a number of trim levels, all with increasing performance. These consist of the base GT-Line, followed by the GT, then the GT1, and finally the GT2.
There have been a number of engine options for the Stinger. Petrol options have consisted of a 2.0 L inline-4, a 2.5 L inline-4, and a 3.3 L V6. Kia also released a single diesel option for the Stinger, which was a 2.2 L inline-4. However, this diesel was retired with the 2020 update.
Kia coupled all of these engines exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
It was announced that the Stinger would be discontinued in 2023 as a result of poor sales, which is somewhat to be expected with a sports sedan from Kia.
The company also announced that there would be a final version called the Stinger Tribute Edition released as a final send-off for the sedan.
