The Santa Fe first made its debut back in 2000. It has been on the market ever since then. In this time, there have been a total of four generations. The fourth and latest of these was unveiled in 2018.

In the Hyundai SUV family, the Santa Fe sits in the middle. This puts it above the Hyundai Tucson and below the Veracruz. It has also been sold as the Maxcruz in South Korea.

Competition from outside of the Korean carmaker comes from the Skoda Kodiaq, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and Kia Sorento. However, there are plenty of others in the packed crossover SUV segment.

There have been a number of trim levels offered over the years. Currently, these consist of the base SE, followed by the SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy. Hyundai has not yet offered an N Line variant.

As with most Hyundai models, this model has been fitted with various engine options. This has consisted of petrol, hybrid, and diesel options.

Petrol engines have typically ranged between a 2.0 L inline-4 through to a 3.5 L V6. diesel options are much more limited, but still range from a 2.0 L inline-4 to a 2.2 L inline-4.

The petrol hybrid version, first called the Santa Fe Blue Hybrid, was first unveiled in 2012. This version is powered by a 1.6 L inline-4 and either a 44.2 kW or a 66.9 kW.

These various engines have been coupled with a number of transmissions. These include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and two different 8-speed automatics.
