The Accent first made its debut in 1994, roughly three decades ago. Since its initial release, there have been six generations. The latest of these hit the markets in 2023.
Hyundai gave the model its name after the abbreviation for Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
It has been the longest-running small family car for the North American market since 2002.
There have been a number of trim levels offered over the years. The latest iteration is offered in just three levels. These consist of the base, SE, followed by the SEL, and Limited. All of these are fairly standard options for Hyundai offerings.
Competition typically comes from the Kia Rio, Nissan Versa, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Toyota Yaris. Of course, these rivals are dependent on whether the 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback Accent is being considered.
Like all Hyundai’s there has been a multitude of engine options. These have typically been petrol or diesel powertrains. Petrols have typically ranged between a 1.0 L inline-3 to a 1.6 L inline-4. Diesel versions have usually been fitted with engines between a 1.4 L inline-4 and a 1.6 L inline-4.
Unlike other Hyundai models, there is not any hybrid tech fitted to the latest generation. The first and only hybrid version was unveiled in 2005, with plans to be released in 2006. However, these plans were abandoned, just like with the Kia Rio Hybrid.
These engines were fitted with various transmissions. These have usually been a 6-speed manual or automatic, 7-speed dual-clutch, and a CVT.
