The Flex first made its debut in 2009 and remained as part of the Ford daily until its discontinuation in 2019.
During its time on the market, Ford released only a single generation prior to its discontinuation. Despite this, it did receive an update in the form of a facelift in 2013.
The decision to discontinue the model came as the result of fairly poor sales, often being outclassed by its rivals. The most notable of these include the Chevrolet Traverse, Toyota Highlander, and Hyundai Palisade.
It was also often compared to its larger sibling, the Ford Expedition.
These rivals make sense considering the fact that the Flex was primarily sold in regions like the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East.
Being a single-generation model, there were fairly limited trim levels over the decade it was on sale. These consisted of the base SE, SEL, and the Limited which represented the most premium version.
There was also the Titanium trim, which was added in 2011. This was essentially a blacked out version of the Limited trim level.
Both of the lower trim levels were offered either FWD or AWD, while the Limited was exclusively sold with an AWD drivetrain.
Only two petrol engines were offered for the Flex. These were either a naturally-aspirated 3.5 L V6 or a twin-turbocharged V6 found in the all-wheel drive option. This was also a 3.5 L engine.
Only 6-speed automatic transmissions were offered for the model. However, these were two different gearboxes.
