The Grandeur first hit the markets way back in 1985. Upon its release, it became the flagship model under the Hyundai lineup. It remained in this spot until the release of the Hyundai Dynasty.
There have been a total of seven generations of the Grandeur since its release. The latest of these, the seventh-gen, was released just a short time ago in 2022.
Hyundai also sold it briefly under the name of the Azera for the North American market, but this version was retired in 2017.
Of course, over such a long stay on the market, there have been a wide array of trim levels available. These were streamlined to just three options for the latest generation though. At this point, only the Premium, Exclusive, and Calligraphy levels were offered.
The main competition for the Grandeur has come from the Genesis G90. Other rivals include the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and BMW 7 Series.
Hyundai has offered a number of different powertrains for the model over the years. Of course, these have changed with each generation. Petrol versions consist of either a 2.5 L inline-4 or a 3.5 L V6. There is also a 1.6 L inline-4 hybrid version, as well as a 3.5 L V6 LPG variant.
While there were a number of diesel versions released over the years, Hyundai decided to retire this type of powertrain in 2018.
These engines have been coupled exclusively with automatic gearboxes since 2005. While these have changed, there have been either 6-speed or 8-speed gearboxes.
