Hoping to capitalize on the booming popularity of the compact crossover segment, VW released the T-Roc in 2017.
Since that time, there has only been a single generation to hit the markets. It also represents the fourth model to join the VW SUV family.
Despite being offered in only two generations, there are two distinct body styles for the T-Roc. These are a 5-door SUV and a 2-door convertible version, which is called the Cabriolet. This version is considered the successor to the VW Eos. It was released in 2020.
In terms of the VW family, the T-Roc finds itself sitting near the middle, beneath the Tiguan and above the T-Cross.
Competition from other manufacturers typically comes from models like the Audi Q2, Volvo XC40, and Peugeot 2008, among a number of others.
VW has offered various trim levels for the T-Roc. The standard packages include the Active, Design, SEL, R-Line, and the high-performance R version.
The Cabriolet version is offered in only two trims, the Design and R-Line. There has also been a notable special edition called the Black Edition.
There has been a fairly wide array of engines offered for the T-Roc. For petrol engines, these ranged from a 1.0 L inline-3 through to the 2.0 L inline-4 found in the R models.
Diesel options offered are either a 1.6 L inline-4 or a 2.0 L inline-4.
These are mated with either two manual transmissions or a single DSG automatic transmission. These are 5-speed, 6-speed, and 7-speed configurations respectively.
In anticipation of a newer generation, the T-Roc then received a mid-cycle facelift in 2021.
